Driven by iPhone, 5G mobile phone sales account for more than 4G mobile phones

Driven by the iPhone, the mobile phone industry set a new milestone in January 2022: For the first time, sales of mobile phones using 5G technology accounted for more than half of global smartphone sales. 5G phones account for 51 percent of sales, according to Counterpoint Research.

Data show that domestic brands Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo each account for about 10% of global 5G mobile phone sales, most of which are from China. Apple’s market-leading 37% was also boosted by its strong position in China. Samsung Electronics Co. pioneered 5G-compatible devices in 2019 and remains the world’s largest smartphone maker, but its share of the global 5G market is limited to just 12% due to its laggard position in China.

Earlier this month, Apple introduced 5G models in its affordable iPhone SE lineup, dropping the entry price for faster connections to $429. That’s about half the price of the company’s average flagship device and could help secure its leading sales position. Apple bought Intel Corp’s cellular modem division for $1 billion in 2019 with the aim of building its own 5G chips in the future. U.S. chip designer Qualcomm has so far largely dominated the business, with its Snapdragon system-on-a-chip that integrates a processor and modem into a single module.

Earlier, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said it would add 600,000 base stations this year to boost 5G coverage, bringing the total to well over 2 million.

According to internal sources in the mobile phone industry, a certain part of Europe has been fined 5 million euros per week since New Year’s Day this year because Apple has been failing to comply with relevant regulations. To a fine of 45 million euros, the equivalent of RMB has exceeded 300 million yuan!

The fine, which lasted more than two months, was due to the fact that Apple charged up to 30% of the commission in the payment system, which is also known as the exorbitant “Apple tax”. Many software developers in Europe have filed lawsuits against Apple many times before, and began to sue Apple in the name of “anti-monopoly” in the Apple Store.

Apple has drafted an agreement with the relevant departments this week to try to stop the departure, but it cannot stop the pace of continuing to be fined. Once the cumulative fine reaches 50 million euros, the weekly fine will be higher.

The world that Steve Jobs laid down… don’t destroy it in the hands of this generation.

Although at present, Apple Watch Series 3 still supports the latest WatchOS 8 system, but there have been hardware problems such as insufficient storage space, which means that it will be difficult to run the WatchOS 9 system that will be launched later.

In addition, the design of Apple Watch Series 3 has gradually failed to keep up with the times. In the Apple Watch product line, it is the last product with a large bezel instead of a full-screen design.
