It’s Ford! Apple’s electric car route plan finally landed

Published

on

It looks like Ford Mustang Mach-E owners will soon have another option for planning their route. Apple Maps’ long-awaited electric vehicle routing (via 9to5Mac). It’s understandable if you’re not impressed with the feature — Apple announced it at WWDC 2020, saying it would be coming to BMWs and Fords in iOS 14, but it’s largely stayed true to the feature since then silence. According to the Apple Maps website, the feature can assess “your charging level, altitude, and compatible charging stations along the way.”

A page on Ford’s website says that Mach-E owners with some versions of the 2022 model year or ’21 model year will be able to access route planning while using CarPlay (though it does mention that it hopes to have all Mach-Es by the end of the year). used by car owners). Ford says that after they enable the feature, the screen will show you how much battery is left in the car when you arrive at your destination.

There’s a chance the Mach-E will be the first car to get the feature, which means there’s a pretty long wait between announcement and launch. Searching the internet, I can’t find reliable reports that the feature has made its way into any BMW models – i3 owners seem pretty sure they won’t get the feature, while i4 owners seem pretty sure they will, although according to BMW’s The car is scheduled to start shipping this month. (I’m sure now that I’ve said this, I’m going to hear tons of people saying they’ve been using it for a year).

Apple didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on the matter, and its support article on the feature simply said it would require a “compatible car.” I haven’t been able to find a list from Apple on which cars are compatible. Considering some of the answers in Ford’s frequently asked questions about the feature, it appears that the automaker really needs to do some work to get the car and the phone to talk to each other, which might explain why the rollout took so long.

Apple Maps already has the ability to search for electric vehicle charging stations, which can pull up charging stations near you and let you route to the charging station like a diesel locomotive driver. While that’s great for fast charging, it doesn’t help when planning longer trips, as the routing feature should do.

For the most part, the annoying part of charging the Mach-E isn’t the route to choose.

Of course, it’s worth noting that the Mach-E does have a built-in version of the feature, and Ford says it does have a few extras like the availability of charging stations, information about how fast the charger can give your vehicle, etc. . But as critics like my former colleague Sean O’Kane and MKBHD have pointed out, there are still frustrating things about Ford’s built-in solution — mostly, there are often chargers that simply fail or don’t work as specified .

Whether that’s a problem for Ford to solve is debatable, but it does mean that routing solutions — including Apple’s — are only half the battle when it comes to charging the Mach-E away from home. It’s nice to have options on how to get directions, though, especially if you like the way Apple Maps works rather than Ford’s built-in navigation. And, hey, if Apple does launch its rumored car, it could try to bend the charging network into its own shape. But that may take a while, as Ford recently hired the man said to be in charge of Apple’s car work.

Apple was fined 300 million yuan! Another big issue with “taxes”

According to internal sources in the mobile phone industry, a certain part of Europe has been fined 5 million euros per week since New Year’s Day this year because Apple has been failing to comply with relevant regulations. To a fine of 45 million euros, the equivalent of RMB has exceeded 300 million yuan!

The fine, which lasted more than two months, was due to the fact that Apple charged up to 30% of the commission in the payment system, which is also known as the exorbitant “Apple tax”. Many software developers in Europe have filed lawsuits against Apple many times before, and began to sue Apple in the name of “anti-monopoly” in the Apple Store.

Apple has drafted an agreement with the relevant departments this week to try to stop the departure, but it cannot stop the pace of continuing to be fined. Once the cumulative fine reaches 50 million euros, the weekly fine will be higher.

The world that Steve Jobs laid down… don’t destroy it in the hands of this generation.

In 2017, Apple launched the Apple Watch Series 3. As the third-generation work of the series, it has a narrower frame and longer battery life than its predecessors, and has become a “dream work” for many users.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo’s revelations, Apple will officially discontinue the Apple Watch Series 3 in the third quarter of this year.

It is reported that the reason why Apple wants to stop the Apple Watch Series 3 has a lot to do with the hardware configuration that is gradually unable to keep up with the times.

Although at present, Apple Watch Series 3 still supports the latest WatchOS 8 system, but there have been hardware problems such as insufficient storage space, which means that it will be difficult to run the WatchOS 9 system that will be launched later.

In addition, the design of Apple Watch Series 3 has gradually failed to keep up with the times. In the Apple Watch product line, it is the last product with a large bezel instead of a full-screen design.

In terms of time, with the retirement of the Apple Watch Series 3, Apple will also usher in the eighth product in the series.
