Apple M2 processor: Autumn release, TSMC 4nm
Apple plans to launch a series of Macs later this year with M2 chips based on TSMC’s 4-nanometer process. This advancement should continue to improve performance and power efficiency.
“TSMC’s 4-nanometer process will also build Apple’s M2 chip, which will power the new Mac lineup slated for the second half of this year,” the report said.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman tweeted Tuesday that Apple has an M2 version of the 13-inch MacBook Pro, a 24-inch iMac and a Mac mini in the works. Apple plans to launch at least some of these Macs around May-June of this year, Gurman said in a newsletter over the weekend, while DigiTimes gave a time frame for the second half of 2022.
The standard M1 chip is built on TSMC’s 5nm process and has an 8-core CPU, as well as a 7- or 8-core GPU, depending on the configuration. The first M2 chip will also have an 8-core CPU, but with faster 9- or 10-core GPU options, according to Gurman.
